Merlinis signature performances had been broadcast live in some of the most relevant television networks worldwide. The Houdini Museum in Scranton, PA is the only museum in the world totally devoted to Harry Houdini. ![]() I hope this understated attraction will bring a smile to your face, and if the entrance fees are a turn-off, at least loiter a while outside, on the hour, for some curious and mythical friends to greet you over the square. David Merlini is a Hungarian-Italian escape artist, and World Record holder, described by Expo 2015 as the worlds most famous escapologist, currently serving as Director of The House of Houdini, the only Houdini museum in Europe. The shop is a little gimmicky, but would be improved with more authentic and quirky products, in line with the museum. ![]() This exhibit takes visitors through his childhood, early career, rise to fame, and legacy with photos, video. It did close during part of the day, so if you’re driving in and out of Blois, it may help to make contact before you get there. See the exhibit to get an inside look at the world-renowned magician and performer Harry Houdini Houdini (AKA Ehrich Weiss) lived in Appleton for four years as a child, and always considered the city to be his hometown. The building is on the main square, and is about four stories high from memory – so be prepared for stairs. I appreciate the show is no longer likely to be on, but I felt it fitted perfectly with the quirky museum, and hope the ensemble are an in-house team still producing similar work. To this day, when I hear Asleep From Day, I remember this bizarre little world. The History Museum at the Castle in Appleton, Wisconsin, features exhibits about magician Houdini. It was a re-telling of Alice in Wonderland, set to a trance-electro soundtrack including the Chemical Brothers, with illusion and dance. professional magician, having taken the name Houdini in honor of the French magician Jean Eugne Robert-Houdin. The show, when I was there, was both bizarre and brilliant. There’s wooden floors and glass cabinets like a “proper” museum, so probably not one for young children. There’s something about the Maison which feels authentic - it’s not a modern museum by any means, but the exhibitions are endearing and really touch on the history of magic and illusion. It’s the perfect antithesis to the grand and opulent chateaus of the Valley. It’s a really sweet attraction, and a welcome change from the sweeping Loire area. Enjoy a magic show with noted professional magicians, Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brooks. We hadn't seen any publicity material, or heard of The Maison de la Magie so stumbling across the enchanted house full of moving, peering dinosaur heads from the shuttered windows over the square was mesmerising. I travelled to Blois with my parents over summer, but this little House of Magic has enchanted me since. ![]()
